Technical Writers, do you want help healthcare providers learn how to use cutting edge software so they can spend more time helping patients, and less time solving IT problems? Then PatientKeeper has an exciting opportunity for you!  We are seeking a Senior Technical Writer with tutorial creation experience to join our Documentation Team. In this role you will create tutorials that teach providers to use our innovative applications and write end-user documentation. Independence, initiative, excellent writing skills, and attention to detail are crucial for success in this role. The seasoned technical writer should be an independent worker who can complete any new project from start to finish, whether it is a new computer-based tutorial or a full-length user guide. This writer needs to have a strong tools background in Adobe products, specifically Captivate and FrameMaker along with Webworks ePublisher or other help building software.


  • Develop training and implementation materials for use by customers and internal staff. Must be able to plan, design, and create tutorials using Adobe Captivate (includes writing scripts, setting up the software, etc.).
  • Write and edit end-user documentation based on specifications and/or beta software. This includes updating and maintaining existing user guides, as well as creating new user guides for new product lines.
  • Work with product managers, developers, client services and participate on cross functional teams to continually create, improve and add value to the PDF, on-line, and tutorial formats of the user documentation.
  • Participate in planning the overall design of product documentation, for example, installation, user, and administration guides and other technical publications, such as release notes.
  • Participate as a leader of design and development of tutorials and on-line help systems.
  • Develop solutions to complex problems, which require regular use of ingenuity and creativity and contributes proactively to the development of new theories and methods.
  • Contribute to the software design by reviewing specifications and beta software and making suggestions for improvement in terms of usability, workflow, and consistency.
  • Participate in a review process for updated or newly written documentation. Peer review other team members’ work in terms of format, organization, and product accuracy.
  • Able to lead documentation projects, including planning and executing deliverables with the documentation manager and overseeing other writer deliverables on the project.
  • Mentor junior writers in terms of conveying company writing standards/processes and imparting product knowledge.


  • BA or BS in English, Computer Science, or related discipline and either a Technical Writing Certificate or Master’s degree. Multimedia certificate highly desirable.
  • 5+ years technical writing experience.
  • Knowledge/experience with developing/creating tutorials required.
  • Excellent writing skills, ability to convey technical information to non-technical audience, ability to work independently and quickly learn new software applications.
  • Knowledge/expertise with Adobe Framemaker, MS Word, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Adobe Captivate or other CBT authoring tools, Snagit or other screen capture/editing tools required.
  • Knowledge of WebWorks or other on-line help authoring tools preferred.
  • Experience leading documentation projects.
  • Familiarity with health care clinical and/or billing information systems preferred. Prior end-user training or implementation experience a plus.
  • Submission of a portfolio with writing samples and tutorials is required.
